Juice Therapy | Juice Fasting
In India, rainy season has just started. There is a tradition of 'fasting' in rainy season in many counrty side Indian cultures. In this fasting, one is supposed to consume only juices and fruits. Recent studies have reveled that this is a good practise which rejuvenates our body and re-installs good health. Modern medical science calls it as juice therapy.
Juice Therapy is a method of treating our body with diet of juices of fruits and vegetables. It is also known as juice fasting. Juice Therapy restores health and rejuvenates the body very effectively. While on juice therapy, one should drink only juices as diet. Juices are very easy for digestive system to digest. In fact, the juices extracted from raw fruits and vegetables require no digestion and almost all their vital nutrients are assimilated directly in the bloodstream. Hence, juice-only intake will ease the work of digestive system and that in turn provides physiological rest to the digestive and assimilative organs. Also during the juice therapy, the cleansing capacity of the organs of elimination, namely lungs, liver, kidneys and the skin, is greatly increased and masses of accumulated metabolic waste and toxins are quickly eliminated. It results in the improvement of digestion of food and the utilisation of nutrients. Alkaline juices are mostly preferred for juice fasting as they help elimination of uric acid and other inorganic acids. The sugar in the juices strengthens the heart.
As we know, the raw juices are extracted from raw fruits and vegetables. Hence, raw juices possess alkaline elements. This neutralizes acid-alkaline balance in the body. Raw juices are also rich in organic minerals like calcium, potassium, etc. These minerals help in restoring mineral balance in the tissues and cells and prevents premature aging of cells.
When on a raw juice therapy, the juice should be drunk every three hours. One can thus take juices five to six times a day. A glass of water mixed with lemon juice and 20 to 30 grams of honey may be taken first thing in the morning on arising. Thereafter, the prescribed juice may be taken at three-hourly intervals.
So, juice fasting is really helpful in many ways and should be carried out at least once every year (off course under the guidance of medical practitioner).
