Juice Therapy | Juice Fasting

In India, rainy season has just started. There is a tradition of 'fasting' in rainy season in many counrty side Indian cultures. In this fasting, one is supposed to consume only juices and fruits. Recent studies have reveled that this is a good practise which rejuvenates our body and re-installs good health. Modern medical science calls it as juice therapy.

Juice Therapy is a method of treating our body with diet of juices of fruits and vegetables. It is also known as juice fasting. Juice Therapy restores health and rejuvenates the body very effectively. While on juice therapy, one should drink only juices as diet. Juices are very easy for digestive system to digest. In fact, the juices extracted from raw fruits and vegetables require no digestion and almost all their vital nutrients are assimilated directly in the bloodstream. Hence, juice-only intake will ease the work of digestive system and that in turn provides physiological rest to the digestive and assimilative organs. Also during the juice therapy, the cleansing capacity of the organs of elimination, namely lungs, liver, kidneys and the skin, is greatly increased and masses of accumulated metabolic waste and toxins are quickly eliminated. It results in the improvement of digestion of food and the utilisation of nutrients. Alkaline juices are mostly preferred for juice fasting as they help elimination of uric acid and other inorganic acids. The sugar in the juices strengthens the heart.

As we know, the raw juices are extracted from raw fruits and vegetables. Hence, raw juices possess alkaline elements. This neutralizes acid-alkaline balance in the body. Raw juices are also rich in organic minerals like calcium, potassium, etc. These minerals help in restoring mineral balance in the tissues and cells and prevents premature aging of cells.

When on a raw juice therapy, the juice should be drunk every three hours. One can thus take juices five to six times a day. A glass of water mixed with lemon juice and 20 to 30 grams of honey may be taken first thing in the morning on arising. Thereafter, the prescribed juice may be taken at three-hourly intervals.

So, juice fasting is really helpful in many ways and should be carried out at least once every year (off course under the guidance of medical practitioner).

Plant without medical properties.

Recently, i came across a story from Indain sculptures. After reading this story, i thought that this story is the base of my blog and i must share it with all my readers and all nature lovers. But for understanding the story, you must know about the education system of those days in India. So, let's start with it.

In ancient India, there was 'gurukul' education system. Where 'guru' means teacher/master and 'kul' means house. So, the young boys were sent to the home of a well-knowledgable person. These 'gurukul's were situated away from human locality, mostly in forest. The students were kept away from the society and were given the knowledge of various subjects alongwith practical knowledge. All pupils were treated same, irrespective of the families they belong. After completion of the education, the guru's were given guru-dakshina from shishya (student). Guru-dakshina means financial or any other kind of help to the master.

After completing the education of herbs and medicine in gurukul, one of the shishya went to his guru and asked him what guru-dakshina does he desire from shishya. Guru asked the boy to go and search for only one plant which do not have any medical property. The name of such plant is the guru-dakshina he desires from shishya. After hearing that shishya asked guru for some time and went in the forest. He started examining every plant for its medical properties. He worked for days, weeks, months. He worked days and nights. After a year, the shishya went back to his guru disappointed that he could not find any plant not having medical properties. With a very heavy heart, he told his guru that he could not pay guru-dakshina as he could not find out the plant without medical properties in spite of working  hard for a year and examining all the plants in the forest. To his amusement, guru smiled and told him that he already knew there was no such plant in the universe. Nature has stuffed medical properties in all plants. Nothing is useless. And the realization of this truth, alongwith the knowledge about medical properties of so many plants was the best guru-dakshina he has got from shishya.

Moral of the story
Nature is the greatest artist. Nature never creates anything useless. Everything has some role to play. Every plant has some sort of medical property in it. Its just a matter that we are ignorant about it.

So, lets discover, share every blessing of nature. Instead of trying to dominate nature, lets live with it.

Turmeric cures cold and cough (using jaggery)

In the last post, we have seen how turmeric is used with milk to cure cold and cough. Now, here in this post we are going to see yet another Indian traditional remedi for curing cold and cough. This time turmeric is combined with jaggery.

  • Take turmeric powder and jaggery in equal amount.
  • Mix it well.
  • Make small capsules from the mixture.

Eat 3-4 capsules each day and you will be relieved from cold and cough.
We know that, Turmeric promotes the growth of White Blood Cells(i.e.WBC's). Similarly, as  Jaggery is a rich source of iron, it promotes the growth of Red Blood Cells (i.e. RBC's) which causes enrichment of haemoglobin. Jaggery is also hot in nature. Turmeric is bitter in taste. Hence, Jaggery adds it's sweet taste to the mixture.

So, here's yet another Indian traditional remedi. Simple yet effective.
